The work habitat solution developed by StS is used at most of the oil fields in the North Sea – including Statfjord, Ekofisk, Heidrun, Gullfaks, Brage and Norne. It yields the same advantages when used at onshore refineries and facilities such as Kollsnes and Mongstad.
The Flexi Overpressure System allows safe welding where this would normally be prohibited. Our habitat offers a highly controlled working environment, providing a barrier to important risk factors. As a result, critical operations can be completed quickly and efficiently.
Automatic shut-down system
The Flexi overpressure system can also be equipped with our Automatic Shut-Down System (HANS). The shutdown system comprises gas detectors, heat and pressure detectors, and a separate workstation for welding power – all linked to a sophisticated central control unit. The electrical equipment and potential fire sources are immediately shut off if any gas is registered inside or in the vicinity of the habitat, if there is a sudden or considerable rise in temperature, or if there is a loss of overpressure in the work habitat.
A modular solution
StS can install a Flexi Overpressure System work habitat on very short notice. Since the system is modular (portable), the size is tailored to customer and site requirements and can be varied from 8 m3 to 1500 m3. Where space is extremely limited, StS can provide habitats as small as 0,5 m3. The system can be used on pipes and pipestocks, beams and girders, on floors, against walls and ceilings. It can also be used where a tailored solution is required, such as in tanks and distillation towers, on BOPs and in production facilities. In other words – virtually anywhere!
Well documented safety and security
Scandpower and NUTEC have tested the Flexi Overpressure System; in addition, a thorough study has been carried out by Det Norske Veritas. StS’s work habitat is constructed of highly fire-resistant PVC materials. The habitat has its own air supply and this adjustable overpressure system completely isolates the work habitat from the environment of the surrounding site, effectively preventing any exchange of air/gases.
